Oh really then why have they threatened to close the strait of hormuz?

Our presence in the region has done a pretty damn good job of protecting an ally for the last 60 years. That is why truman sent the 7th fleet into the taiwan strait at the beginning of the korean war.

holy crap..that's great

I wonder if Putin would send troops to Baton Rouge to help us end this plunder of the taxpayers??

We could give him $500 million or so and break even after 3 years.

how is sanctions, and diplomatic pressure neocon policy? Neocon policy would be what McCain would have done and sent in the troops already and I have said I am against that.

Ok now I am gone

Well today we see another reason republicans were stupid on this issue.

Putin has publicly stated he has no intention of using military force.

Let's see if the democrats are as stupid as the republicans and try to take credit for Putin's stance.

Sounded like Bush or Obama---military force would be "last resort".

STUPID STUPID STUPID for republicans to have made an issue out of this so Obama would have an issue to claim success. Even here posters were trying to claim the Ukraine was only a stepping stone--a prelude to Russia invading all of Eastern Europe. Stupid stuff to say.

No doubt some democrat is already touting the "claim, mature wisdom of the President" in stopping the world from going to war.

Has it crossed you mind that the Russians might have been right in Afghanistan in the eighties? They didn't want a bunch of militant muslims that close to them. I wonder if they were right?

Then they should have told their own people why they were in Afgh. The govt press in the USSR all through their incursion into Afgh maintained that it was a lie created by the west. "There are no Soviet troops in Afghanistan!"

How long has this been in play a week or two? No guarantee of the outcome.

Voters will not care two shits come November.

If they do it will only be because republican loud mouths seeking a way to twist the regional crisis into criticism of Obama created more noise than the issue deserved.

Explain that.

He looks like the peace maker in this issue. It was incredibly dumb to give him that chance.

This is the press he got--- LINK

Read this STUPID crap some republicans are whining about now.

LINK

Obama did nothing to stop Putin. Putin had no intention to start a war. The Crimean people would rather Russian control and he knows it. BUT the republicans gave Obama the stage. IT WAS STUPID.

So you are saying that disagreement with Obama on this matter will impact November and will resonate with voters?

Well, this particular badass considers it none of our business, and that our elected officials just need to STFU about it.

The region bordering Russia is unstable. A portion of the nation is mostly Russian and you fault him for sending troops there?

Right. This thing isn't black and white. There is 200 years of history in that region that tie Russia and Crimea together. Russia's stance is that there has been a illegitimate removal of Ukrainian leadership that now threatens the Crimeans who share ethnic and cultural identity with the Russians.

There is really no close analogy for the US but it would be similar to an overthrow of Canadian leadership and Americans in Canada crying for help from the US government.

What was the disagreement??

If I am the democrats I frame this as the republicans wanting war and Obama worked for peace.

Even worse--I would be saying while the republicans whined about Obama's attair the President worked to prevent Eastern Europe falling into Russian hands.

That would play right into the absolutely stupid crap some republican loud mouths have been saying.
