4) amnesty would only allow for legal status, NOT citizenship

This is what’s included in the bill, only permanent legal status for 5.5 years for those who accrued over a thousand hours working in ag, as of Oct. 2019.

It also the seasonal aspect of these already available permits to year-round.

They still have to prove they tried to hire American workers.

Drawbacks: It applies to family and it can be extended beyond 5.5 years.

Nowhere is citizenship mentioned in the legislation.

Sounds a lot like the slaveholders of the American South in the 1850s.

You can't sign amnesty without changing the current immigration laws such as birthright citizenship and you can't sign it without a secure border.

For now.

I remember Reagan and the country getting fricked in 86 because the Dems didn't hold up their end.

GHWBush (and the country) got fricked when the dems didn't deliver the spending cuts they promised for the tax increase.

The Dems led my Teddy "How'd this drwoned pregnant woman get into my car" Kennedy promised that the 65 Immigration law would open the floodgates to the third world.

It's time to put the interest of the AMERICAN CITIZENRY first.

I’ve read the bill. Nothing stands out as particularly objectionable to me. Is there any text in the bill that you find uncomfortable?

ETA: I’ve read the summary of the bill.

Horowitz and Levin agreed the legislation is a way to legalize millions of illegals currently in the country and those illegal aliens will eventually gain citizenship.....I can guarantee if Hispanics were voting +65% Republican you TDS fueled loons would be going ballistic!

Yeah, ultimately having >10 million people compelled to live off the grid is dangerous for those people and potentially dangerous for the rest of us. These people aren’t leaving, no matter how bad some want them to, so it’s incumbent on us to compel them to live legally. If this bill does that, it’s a good bill.

Any pork in it?

Right before an election too. It’s like another trap for Trump is being set. Frick these people.

We cannot have another 1986 bill. There are 3-4 times more illegals in the country since then. Frick em all of this passes.

You keep mentioning the 65% as if that’s what makes it not politically expedient for Republicans. It’s quite the opposite. 65% indicates a needle that can be moved a good deal in either direction. If Republicans can turn that 65% into 60%, they win bigly. Democrats got less of the 2016 Hispanic vote than they were expecting, meaning Republicans got more than at least the Democrats were expecting them to, and Trump won. Not a coincidence.

Also, I vote Republican. I don’t get my ideas of right and wrong from a political platform. What retard would do that, other than the 95% of this country who do?

That's why I have proposed barring them from eligibility to vote for 20 years.

Guarantee the push to "legalize" them by the Dems would evaporate.

And when you grant them amnesty without closing off the border you are inviting more people to cross the border illegally and wait on the next amnesty.

Do you know expensive tractors are? Or how much technology farmers use?

Farming is a capital heavy venture, but, thankfully, there are banks that will loan you money to help make critical investments.

Like tractors, or whatever labor saving devices we invent to reduce our labor needs.

Farmers will be fine.

In the interim, sure. Eventually the cost of the technical solutions we develop will drop.

Our current system does two things.

Impoverish poor Americans. And forestall technological change.
