Assuming a deal could be reached where the US got the rare earth minerals that Trump is currently asking for and the Europeans provided all of the peacekeeping ground troops, would anyone support the US providing air power to enforce a “no-fly zone” of sorts over the remaining Ukrainian territory and possibly naval vessels in the Black Sea to protect the sea lanes?

Trump loves to make deals. He knows he’s going to have to give something to get what he wants, an end to the war and payback for the support we’ve given until now. Putin knows he’ll have to give something too, probably in the form of European ground troops in Ukraine. Zelensky knows he’s basically got no say in the outcome at this point but would might be more willing to make the rare earth deal if the US would at least provide something like air cover.

Thoughts?

Good thread topic.

I like this idea, especially since I think there's a way for the US military to provide air cover to British ground troops in Ukraine that does not involve any US military air bases being established inside of Ukraine.

This idea might work better if the UN were involved. If Russia agrees to a Peace Agreement, they won't Veto it in the UN Security Council, so it might work.

As you say, a framework for lasting peace will probably involve some UN or EU peacekeeping forces inside Ukraine. The US military can support those British and European military ground combat units from US air bases outside of Ukraine.

America has a new foreign policy: One that not even our own Government has agreed to....

To summarize: We're not going to invite or push NATO in Ukraine to tick off Russia

There is no peace until NATO retreats, it's that simple. It's not negotiable, I think after 1 million dead, that's been made clear at least to Trump.

That's it in a nutshell, Yet Zelensky and many EU nations want NATO to stand up to Russia...

It's hard to give Ukraine security measure they want...the best one is to not require it at all! Radical concept! It's like stop kicking the dog because if you don't, he will keep biting your foot!
