Red Flag laws - "I'll only stick the head of it in" and other government lies
I see this current sales pitch that Red Flag laws will only be applied with the utmost caution and never abused, like the patriot act and FISA courts.

Just a friendly reminder of the long 'bait and switch' history that our government has:

quote:

1913: The income tax is made possible via Constitutional amendment. Critics protest that there is no top rate set, warning that the top rate might rise to as much as ten percent. They are assured that no such thing will ever happen.

1936: A Social Security Administration explanation of the programs says : “And finally, beginning in 1949, 12 years from now, you and your employer will each pay 3 cents on each dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. That is the most you will ever pay.”

1962: AFDC is expanded to “fight poverty” Democrats argue that the numbers are very small and increasing payments will help families get out of poverty. Critics say it will lead to dependency. Before welfare reform you had 15 million recipients and were entering the fourth generation of dependency.

1964 – Critics of the Civil Rights Act charge that it will result in quotas. Hubert Humphrey responds “I‘ll eat my hat if this leads to racial quotas.”

1966 – Critics claim Medicare will be too expensive. The Democratic-dominated “House Ways and Means Committee estimated that Medicare would cost only about $12 billion by 1990 (a figure that included an allowance for inflation). This was supposedly a ‘conservative’ estimate. But in 1990 Medicare actually cost $107 billion.”

2003 – Medicare Part D, drug plan is estimated to cost “only” $340 billion over ten years. Only a few years later and the cost is $540 billion and rapidly rising.

2010 - Obamacare will save the average family $2,500 in premiums and won't add to the deficit. If you like your plan you can keep you plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.

Isn’t the phrase “just the tip”?

Yeah, wake the frick up people. The second you give govt the power, the next second they find ways to justify the expansion of their newfound powers.

Even at the local level, you ever see the toll lanes go away?

I said "just the tip" to my bride last March and January 10 of this year our son was born, so Red Flags don't work.

not in the David Allen Coe song 3 biggest lies:

quote:

I said,

"This'll only hurt for a little while

I'll only put the head of it in

I promise that I'll never try to cum in your mouth."

Believe it or not, I have! GA400 in ATL was planned as a 10 year toll road, you know "just to cover the costs". Paid for itself in 3-4 years and govt got used to the $$. They literally planned to shut the toll down for 1 day to keep their promise, then resume business as usual. Folks went nuts and they aborted that horrible idea.

Wow...that’s a unicorn for sure. I remember the WV Turnpike had that same premise years ago. Found ways to get that gravy rolling after it was just a “temporary” measure to pay for the entire project. Only temporary

Yeah! The lottery in Tennessee was promised "just for education". Before the ink was dry, "its not only for education, but..."

Not quite. Tolls only covered 1/3 of GA 400’s cost (the rest was from federal and state gas tax revenue), and they were 20-year bonds.

Personally, I wish they had kept the tolls since traffic skyrocketed after they were removed in 2013.

Point is tolls became a cash cow and naturally the Govt didn't want to give it up.
