the constant “jokes” about rads always saying clinically correlate is just petty.
It's an ongoing lounge bit between the clinical guys and the rad guys where I'm at now, in good fun. And it's been that way the past few places I've been. I could see it being old, from your side of the fence.
People ask you all day long for a specific answers that can't be given because they don't understand the limitations of the very imaging they've ordered and, thus, don't really understand what it is you're doing all day long at all. I don't envy that.
And I'm sure it's frustrating to look at a film with limited clinical information and point out the multitude of things that could be presenting in such a way and have a clinical guy essentially downplay what it is you're doing/saying because you won't limit your read to "it's definitely (this)" in most cases.

I have a friend in China that sent a Chinese language article to me from a nurse in a hospital in Wuhan. She mentioned something about chest CT scans showing "ground glass" in a way that made CV-19 stand out as the cause.

In my almost 30 years as a Respiratory Therapist I've seen this term:
and this term:
thousands of times.
I'm not arguing anything or slighting anyone just pointing out an observation.

Edward Aschoff died of pneumonia on Christmas Eve. I wonder if he had CV and no one knew?

Well if your radiologist uses the term infiltrate on a chest radiograph then they were trained very poorly, and needs to go back and read Felson’s book on CXRs from U of Cincinnati. Opacities are either airspace, or interstitial. Infiltrate is a copout/wastebasket term used by someone who doesn’t know what they are looking at.
I agree to infiltrate being a dumb term, but come on.
Even pulmonary edema exist on a spectrum beginning in the alveoli and then moving into the interstitium. There's a reason even the most seasoned Radiologists hedge sometimes. All that shite looks the same at the end of the day on a chest xray.

Yes. Covid-19 has a typical pattern. But, it is a nospecific pattern.

Reportedly some patients are hypoxic before respiratory symptoms. The theory goes the virus attacks hemoglobin cells first. They compared it altitude sickness (HAPE).
Don't know enough about the medical side to know if that's all BS or not?
Don't know about the mechanisms but CMS amended its coverage requirements for oxygen therapy. Normally they won't pay for O2 for acute conditions but they're going to for Covid-19.

Lol I’m sure they would be crushed by the opinions of an obviously snippy resident
