A security officer overheard a student threaten to open fire at his Southern California high school, allowing officials to thwart the plot just days after a deadly shooting in Florida, authorities said Wednesday.

The 17-year-old student at El Camino High School near the city of Whittier was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, and his adult brother was arrested on five weapons charges after two assault rifles, 90 high-capacity magazines and other handguns were found in their home.

A security officer on Friday heard the teen "say that he was going to shoot up the school sometime in the next three weeks," Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said at a news conference.

The school reported the teen, and deputies found an assault rifle at the home registered to his 28-year-old Army veteran brother and another that was not registered, which is a felony in California, McDonnell said.

So basically if the security ppl and the administration do not have their head up their arse like the FBI and Broward country school board the bad stuff doesn't happen.

the media really needs to learn what an assault rifle is. Unless the army let the brother keep his m16 or m4, he didn't have an assault rifle (they didn't)

Since when has the media let facts ruin a good story?

People really sound like ignorant morons when they use incorrect terminology when it comes to guns.

90 high-capacity magazines
90 mags? Yeah, I highly suspect this is incorrect. I know of no one who has 90 mags.

It is hard to say if it was 90 mags or not, but there are atleast 50 in that picture.

I see 10 stacks of 4, plus the other 2, 42 total.

Seriously, how the frick is someone going to carry around 90 loaded 30 round mags? How much would that weigh?

Not nearly as much as the fat that most of the ppl in Louisiana carry around every day. So it can be done.

Yea, it doesn’t really matter if he owned 10 or 100000. You’re probably not carrying more than 10.

Since they are illegal in Cali, he may have been selling them on the black market. I knew of someone who sold AK and SKS mags during the 1994 ban. Made $50 at least on each one.

Guys we're getting away from the point. If the school admins and the local police do their jobs the vast majority of this type of stuff would be prevented. It is only when the school admins ignore the warning signs and the local authorities and/or the FBI have their head up their arse that this stuff happens.

Lemme get this straight OP. 1) A kid claimed he was going to shoot up a school. 2) Police use this statement from an ear witness to get a search warrant. 3) police search home the kid lives in and arrest his army veteran older brother for possession of fire arms that are legal in all non-liberal states

Thus, an army veteran is incarcerated for possession for his idiot kid brother saying he was going to shoot up a school is a victory?

This is why I can't visit liberal states... I just did a bachelor party in Denver and had to carry my revolver because that liberal state has a 10 round magazine capacity law and if you violate it you get arrested. I have a CHL too and sorry if that offends anyone here lol

Just because he is a veteran doesn't mean he is above the law. He should have known the law and registered the 2nd rifle. I do not support the law in Cali, but Cali has the right to make that law and I do support states rights. Also it is not a victory, but it does prove my point that it is not AR-15s that cause violence.
