You reach a point where you don't have any more chances due to a hardened heart.
I doubt this murderer repented at the end due to a true conversion of the Spirit of God, but then again, the disciples of Christ were afraid of Paul because he was an ardent opponent to Christ and the Christians, helping jail them and put them to death.
