Progressives Always Hold the Trump Card

That Trump Card is government handouts. It is a trump card in almost every political issue imaginable. The GOP is built on the premise of limited government. Sure its members don't always hold true to that premise but they at least have that expectation from the base of GOP voters. Dems do not have that expectation from their voters. They have the expectation of expanding the government.
Lets take for example the immigration issue. If illegals knew that they had 0 access to taxpayer's money, would illegal immigration be so much of an issue?
Amnesty is a serious threat to the GOP because if illegals are granted voting rights they will without a doubt vote for the political party that is willing to give them more access to taxpayer's money. Who would vote for the candidate fighting against giving you benefits?

i proposed a similar thread a while back
and this is the issue with immigration. i am pro-immigration. i am anti-welfare. as a society you have to pick one or the other
it's impossible to afford both
until we eliminate our welfare system (including medicare and SS), then we cannot afford an open immigration policy and need a much more restrictive one. make your choice: handouts or immigration. i choose immigration

No it isnt. They just disagree with Dems on where to expand .gov the most.

I'm okay in my thinking that a percentage of illegal immigrants come here for better work opportunities without expecting handouts from the govt.

You are probably right. We should swap them for the ones who are already here and wont work.

This is closer to the truth.

This is why the Republicans should pass a bill that all families get good stamps, housing aid and educational freebies. One, it would expose the liberal lie that they want fairness. Second, it would eliminate the Democratic average of pandering to certain groups with freebies. Lastly, the Dems would have to admit that expanding the welfare rolls isn't sustainable and this would bolster the existing conservative position.

Yes it is. What you say is reality but it isn't what they GOP advertises. You don't hear GOP candidtates saying "I can spend your money better than the other guy" in their political ads.
That is my point. If the GOP had campaigned like that this last election, they would have won jack squat

The country is against this action and against ACA.
When these illegals start paying taxes( that's what this is all about with dems, more taxes ) then they will start votiing in a different way.
The country will go broke shortly, then the dems will pay the price.

I agree with what UncleFestersLegs said.
Conservatives/the GOP (unless they are hard core libertarian, Ron Paul people) want to give the military a blank check for as much spending as they need for all times.
The GOP leadership also want to give corporations and wall street free reign no matter what, without restrictions. They also are more than willing to give handouts in the name of corporate welfare and to protect the billionaire class at all costs.
On the other side of the coin, the GOP gets off on punishing the poor. Not just hands off, they want to go on the offensive to punish the poor if it was up to them.

The GOP only cares about spending when they are either in the minority in congress or a Dem is in the WH.
It happened in 94 with Gingrich and Clinton and again since 2010.
What's hilarious is that Dems claim credit for the last budget "surplus" under Clinton but go back and look at the congressional voting. Democrats all voted in lockstep against the budget.

I would point out how Dems are just as guilty at this but I doubt you would care.

No truth to this

As a privately employed taxpayer, what is the real difference to me between a handout (Democrat), a business subsidy (Republican), or a government job (Democrat and Republican)?
frick both parties.
frick both parties.

So the Rebuplicans did away with the ethanol mandate when the controlled Congress and the White House? Can't believe I forgot about that.
Bush veteod the GM / Chrysler bailout? Can't belive that one slipped my mind.
Etc.

And where are your GOP leaders actively working to reduce the government payrolls in their home districts and states?

I don't get this thinking when I see it.
Both parties expand government when in control and it's more about how both parties think government should be run.
Sure seems this is where both parties differ a bunch.

The vast majority of illegal immigrants come here to work and better their life. They only get addicted to government handouts AFTER they get here because that is the American culture. Hispanics who come here illegally are incredibly hard working people.

Nice flare, not falling for it.
I never said republicans were not guilty of doing this. You implied that republicans do this unilaterally in the same way that Dems act on welfare. Business subsidies are a bipartisan deal.

Ive already responded to this. Please keep reading the thread. Also, not to be rude but yall really need to learn the definition of the word premise.
