If I weren't an arse, I'd say that Trump is learning diplomacy...
NRA not happy at all but that's their only job.
Is he playing nice to not have problems with his Supreme Court nomination?
Is he now trying to work with Democrats?
One way or the other, Trump appears to be in the Christmas spirit. He even gave govies off Christmas Eve!

I haven't looked into the prison reform issue, but if it's anything like 'comprehensive immigration reform' it involves taking a bad situation and making it worse.
