You just 'think' you hate the term "gouging." I find use of the term "shrinkage" to be absolutely despicable

No electricity for days and weeks? Then charge whatever you want for a gallon of gas. Vehicles, chainsaws, generators, etc be damned. Let that gas station charge $10 or more a gallon. Those that can afford it reap the benefits, those that can't tough luck.

Lowes and HomeDepot can charge $100 for sheets of plywood. $20 each for 2x4's. $200 for tarps to cover roofs. Survival of the richest I say.

This is Sarcasm people.

Damn right.

But Louisiana has been populist for too long. And then get pissed if there is no bag ice around after a hurricane. They should be happy to have it at $10/bag. Or gas at any price. Most of my theoretically conservative friends are clueless on this topic.

I’m happily drifting my own thread…

What are your thoughts on the New Deal vs. WW2 pulling the US out of the Depression? I have heard arguments for both.

If I remember incorrectly FDRs first wave of measures made things worse. Then a second wave of measures had some good affect p. But before long WWII shows up and drastically changes the world. So I believe it was a mixed bag and the history was written by the winners.

How many people filling up on gas are doing so because of a ‘need’ in this context, vs. just wanting to ride around and look at stuff?
WTF difference does that make?

There are 10,000 gallons of gasoline available in the metro area for the next three days. If everyone fills up their car for no reason other than "just in case," 500 cars get filled up (20 gal tanks), and nobody else gets any gas. If the price of fuel makes you limit yourself to 2 or 3 gallons in case you need to run to the ER, thousands of cars get gas.

Supply is not infinite, especially in case of disaster.

Good thing we have faith based organizations that donate for free to those who can not manage the inflated price gouging. Not something I would do were I in a disaster area and owned a business. But that's just the Christian love that I pour out for disaster victims. However, feed a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. That to say, there is a time line for when they need to do on their own.
