First, there is no way for anyone to know how much drugs get into the USA at other points along the border besides the legal checkpoints.

The drug dealers will just bring all of their drugs through openings in the present wall system.
That's why President Trump says it is necessary to build the wall, use drones and other high tech equipment to patrol it as well as strengthen the legal checkpoints.
Thanks DawgFan, you are exactly right and finally you brought up the issue in this thread. If 90% of your resources are deployed at the border checkpoints.... then 90% of the results will be there. Hell, for all we know the majority of the drugs are crossing at the rest of the border and we have no clue. Drug boys are LTAO, or probably funnelling more money to the DNC as we speak.

When Truman tried to use national emergency to take over the steel industry in 1952, it was in front of SCOTUS in like 3 weeks.

I think the fact that there is no legal precedent and the there is little that clarifies what is a national emergency is going to force the courts to take their time. They need to get it right or you are setting up a precedent where a president could just rule by emergency decree to circumvent congress.

It would be interesting to see how Thomas would rule. I suspect the orginalists would have more problems with this than the leftist. The leftist would probably just rule against Trump because he is Trump but Thomas might join them because of Constitutional issues—-can the POTUS just declare an emergency because he can’t get the funding for a project? Could POTUS prove a national emergency?
It would be an interesting topic to watch the SCOTUS rule.

Meh, what's been happening at our southern border has been a national emergency for decades but both parties refused to do anything that would end it for various reasons.
Now we finally have a president who is willing to do what is necessary to end this national emergency and I support him 100%.
