Most of the politicians at the Federal level have been self important narcissist since at least HS. They have always sought out positions of authority, leadership and/or power. From student clubs in HS and college to internships with congressmen, Senators, Judges, or some other political advocacy group. They are conditioned to believe that they are above you from an early age. Career politicians are expected to climb the ladder of their party through the framework of the long standing system of playing by the rules of that their predecessors put into place at the start of this Republic. That is to be apprentices to the establishment. Machine politics has been going on since this Nation was formed. The root cause of the push back against Trump is founded in this dynamic. He did not pay his dues and is considered a usurper and a threat to the power that they covet. A power that underlies why most of the career politicians start on that track to begin with at an early age.

quote:

It's no wonder politics attracts the largest collection of sociopaths, pathological liars, and criminals ever to hold public office. The job requirement is to lie,

The main fallacy of our democracy is that for it to work well we need to elect the most honest and intelligent among us,

but then in order to be electable we require them to lie to us that they believe that death is an illusion, heaven and hell literally exists, and they must pretend to know things they can't possibly know, like what happens to us after we die.

Until we can mature intellectually as a populace to remove this idiotic requirement, we'll continue to elect people that have no problem with lying to your face to get what they want.
