while Annie Duke is not a very good poker player, her argument is still solid. poker has been exceptionally important to me in honing my ability to analyze decisions to make the best decision and teach myself that even the best decision doesn't always work out
this is kind of necessary during the current histrionic shite fit progressives are throwing. ignoring their emotional-based arguments, they are simply arguing for bad decision-making. the best decision is needed, not the most expedient decision that decreases your short-term emotional status
listen to the part about the confirmatory thinking style v. exploratory thinking style.

Interesting. How many bracelets do you have again?

she has one, and it was in a women's event back during the Moneymaker era, iirc
*ETA: and i'm not a public face for poker and she's also an alleged scam artist (like her brother)
*ETA: one bracelet, in a dual-sex Omaha Hi/Lo event

I'm not seeing where it was a women's event
Also see she has over 4 million in WPT winnings
Alleged as you said and irrelevant to this convo anyway
I just don't understand why you would start your thread by saying this person is not a very good poker player.

That's being generous. She's terrible.
And a scam artist.
Posted on 2/21/18 at 12:26 pm to Draconian Sanctions
And if she's such a scam artist why didn't you lead with that?

It's like 25% of SFP's schtick

well she went into poker scams b/c ESPN gave her fame and she was a lifetime loser in poker so she had to use that fame to make money (via some questionable ventures)

doesn't mean anything
with staking, she didn't earn close to that much plus the question becomes how much in entries did she pay. tournament pros, especially back in the day, were pretty much all losers (except for like Phil Helmuth) long term

because anyone who knows anything about poker would immediately discount what she says in the interview for that reason, so i got ahead of the narrative

nope
as has been shown. anyone who knows about poker would immediately discount what she said due to being a bad poker player

Thats some high quality spin SFP, bravo

because talking about poker as an alleged expert is a different thing than talking about poker as an accused scam artist
her expertise in poker calls into question the assertions in the book, but her book isn't just using poker to make her argument. we'd never get there, however, due to her issues of ability as a player, because people ho follow poker would derail the thread by not allowing any discussion about her arguments by attacking her alleged expertise

Is Bovada not a thing anymore?
it's Ignition and it's overrun by bots

Poker is Life,
This sounds like one of those "Everything I ever needed to know I learned in kindergarten" things.
'Play the cards you are dealt'
'Be wary of what people say....it could be a bluff'
that kinda thing.
I'm not going to read it. But, I think one could do the "_____ is Life" for nearly any vocation / avocation, pastime, etc.

it's not spin
here's a two plus two thread on her. this is what i was trying to avoid

from my personal experience, she is basically Satan
I don't think there are very many people in the poker community who have anything nice to say about this woman.
She is awful on multiple levels.

It taught me how poor I am at reading people and how good they tend to be at reading me. Something I probably would never have critically examined about myself. I put some serious time into studying body language and facial expressions, to learn explicitly the stuff that most people, even many children, are implicitly better at than I am.
It was frustrating because body language is not a slam dunk deal, it's contextual. I gave up trying to analyze people second by second and went to a strategy of just "playing my hands" IRL. Then I met the woman who would become my wife and all the stuff I'd learned just happened to click. I could read her like a book and still can.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em

solvers aren't the future, as long as people are playing
GTO only gives you the perfect defense, but you will be -EV with the rake. exploitative play is still how to profit and that's non-GTO
Ignition is dangerous primarily b/c it's anonymous so impossible to track bots
