The reason why communism doesn't work is that it gives too much power to the state, which then transforms it into totalitarianism which is inherently antithetical to communism, so by the time it has gotten to this point (Stalin, Mao, ect), it is no longer communism. It is a weakness of process, not ideology.

Whereas Nazism is intentionally evil and calls for the eradication of most people.

I'd much rather be on the side that has people that mean genuinely well but have a dumb solution to the brutal maintaing of power over the poor than the side that has people who want the Final Solution of murdering everyone that is different than them.
