Q: Why did Congress allow the assault weapons ban which had been in place for 10 years, expire in 2004?

The assault weapons ban reduced gun crime when it was in effect, and mass shooting events were rare (Columbine being one such event). I'm confident when the Democrats regain control of Congress later this year and Speaker Ryan becomes a historical footnote, we will pass meaningful, thoughtful gun control legislation.

You'll do it "next time" - hell, you didn't do it the last time you had control of congress under Obama. Why not?

Republicans were in the majority when the ban was put in place. It was useless. Mass killings started when your beloved Bill Clinton was the president. No late night talk show host (particularly ones notorious for black face impressions on their shows making fun of African Americans like Jimmy Kimmel did repeatedly) ever blamed Clinton for those killings. Why not?
