Crazy to think these people have been in solitary for almost 2 years now for misdemeanor trespassing charges. I would hate the government with the intensity of 1,000 suns.

I worked for the DOJ for nearly a decade. In the average case, they'll freeze all your assets, give you really shitty federal public defender, and use the unlimited budget and resources of the United States government to destroy you on every crackpot charge they can get. The sentences they give you are brutal too and there's no good time release like in state courts.
These cases challenged the government, so they're out for blood even more than ever before. Plus do you really think a Trump supporter will even have the slightest chance at a fair trial with a DC jury? You'd take the same plea settlement if they charged you today.

The federal sentencing guidelines punish people for going to trial and losing. And a black man in Mississippi in the 1950's had as much chance of being acquitted by a jury as a Republican today does in Washington DC. It's easy to see why people plead guilty who actually aren't.
