Look, I won't argue that people in the world are going to twist words and meanings. And that some democratic socialists are probably secretly authoritarian communists.
However, there is a huge difference between an actual democratic socialist and an authoritarian communist. And it's pretty obvious that Republicans have sought to create a false equivalence there.

You are playing semantics with the word "difference".
There is a pathway from democratic socialism to authoritarian governments. Socialism doesn't work. And the bandaid for socialism is communism. And the bandaid for failed communism is authoritarian communism.
Nazis were democratic socialists. It led to a government control over everything.

You can't promise me they won't stop until they become full communists.
That's the problem. We that love freedom will not tolerate the slide toward socialism.
Make no mistake, these people are marching us closer to that end. You can downplay it if you want. You can say it's paranoia. If I'm right and we allow this to happen you better be a "Party" member if you want to live a good life.
How do we balance that? I don't know. My preference is to fight back against anything that marches us closer that point of no return.
Maybe there are compromises to be made and more programs that need to be addressed but I don't think growing the Fed Gov is what we need right now at this point in history.
We can't afford squat and I don't want to raise taxes before we balance budgets annually. They waste our money.

OK, please give 3 examples of Democrats ceding power in any way, shape or form in recent History.
The faithful implementation of Democrat policies ALWAYS leads towards Socialism and taking power AWAY from the people which they never willingly return.
Our "paranoia" is warranted.

You are going to say that a party who called themselves National Socialist German Workers' Party and were democratically elected into office is not an example of democratic socialism run amuck into a totalitarian regime?

I noticed a car off the side of the road with a flat tire. I pulled off to give assistance and saw it was AOC. I asked if I could be of help, she replied, "No, it's only flat on the bottom."
