This is the number one example of why Donald Trump destroying the media is important.
People think the 2008 collapse was Bush's fault. That is the power of the media: They can assign baseless blame for economic cataclysms on their target of choice with no basis in reality.
It was the fault of government backed, sub prime loans that found their sinister beginning under William Jefferson Clinton and maintained under Barney Frank and the like that caused the crash.
