Solar panel efficiency falls drastically with higher temps
What’s drastically?
And what temp was the production modeled at?

The government has always known better than the free market. Which is why we don't have a free market. They know better than the press which is why we dont have free press. They know better than the people which is why we don't have free elections, or free speech.. they definitely know better than the constitution which is why we don't have ANY freedom. Except for the freedom to pay taxes on everything we buy, sell, earn, or use. And if you don't exercise that freedom correctly you're free to rot in a jail with bars.

Not many things do well in hurricanes.
The natty gas power plant in Houma didn’t stand a chance for Ida. They even fortified the windows in recent years, but the cooling towers had issues. FEMA is supposed to come in and pay for a new plant.

Not a whole hell of a lot does. What's your point?
Natural gas ain't too bad.

Supplemental power at the expense of reliable baseline power.

No duh.
Texas has a lot of desert which is where solar makes sense.

It probably hasn't made the situation any worse.

That may be true. And I know very few people opposed to the concept of “green” or “renewable” energy. Or whatever you want to call it. The more diverse sources of electricity feeding the grid, the less like the grid is to fail. The issue is government interference with the natural adoption of these technologies by subsidizing them. If they are better, the market will adopt them.

I'd love to have a whole home solar system that could power an electric car, mower, tractor etc but I'm not trying to fork over $250k for the privilege
I have no doubt, that if left alone we'd soon have solar power cars that would be able to drive coast to coast without recharge but as long as we have out government subsidizing "good enough for now" solar progress will be stalled

Having "supplemental" power that is hit or miss depending on the weather and time of day looks to me to be a foolish gamble if it is ever really needed. However, solar and wind are not being pitched by the Cult of AGW as "supplemental," but as a main source we have to depend on.
I'd be happier if they were looking at ocean waves as a power source. Waves generally run 24/7 and water packs about 800 times the power of wind. 71% of Earth's surface is ocean.

Climate Change, Climate Change, Climate Change! The climate has always changed and it has been always hot in TX in the late spring to early fall. The left is continuing to try to link changes in climate to humans. And make policy and lifestyle changes to continue to suck money from taxpayers. Question for you libs, is China falling in line with this BS?

Biden administration can pull the Texas power grid anytime they want to. All part of the control mechanism.

It’s not 250 but a really first class system that can run a big arse house off grid capable and charge an EV is around 125k. Then you get 30% back as a tax credit.

Gas, coal and nuclear plants are not destroyed by hail storms...in fact impacted at all.
Posted on 6/28/23 at 8:30 pm to billjamin
Nonsense. I have solar panel companies and the mirror producers as customers...all of them admittedly struggle in dealing with hail storms.

You must sell to some non tier 1 garbage companies then. Solar fleet hail damage is a nothing burger.
