The moral of my story is that I don’t think most people think near as much about politics as some would think.
Are there certainly some crazies there, yes, but there are crazies everywhere. The news brainwashes people, in my opinion.
The average person that watches Tucker Carlson probably thinks they would get sexually assaulted with pvc pipe if they went anywhere remotely left of center.

I spent a month there, in East Bay area, which seemed politically moderate to liquidate a manufacturing line for a Dow Chemical subsidiary that was to make SIMM chips and phone screens but missed the market by a month. While there I also inspected and assessed equipment from a herbicide pesticide plant which had been repurposed to make chem weapons agents by Iraq using Iraqi born persons.
But this was 2002.
In-N-Out burgers in Bay Area didn't taste nearly as good as in the Los Angeles area.
I did meet avid duck hunters, which I had not expected.
The interesting thing is that I met a few retirees who had thought they'd move to Oregan to get away from wacktivist madness of the Bay Area and moved back after a year. They realized that Oregon was a leftist bastion more so than CA

I lived in Vermont. They were fine until they ran into someone who disagreed with them and then immediately stonewalled and ostracized or openly harassed.

The super conservative who loves San Francisco thinks conservatives think like this.

Haha. You seem very upset by my posts. Did the people in Vermont upset you that much?
This seems like some personal animosity.

Thank you for sharing. Unfortunately, a lot of the "news" and headlines that we read are sensationalized, driven by click-revenue.
Let's remember that this battle is not against flesh and blood.

Despite what you may read on here, people in the Bay Area are very friendly and pretty down to earth. Despite the reputation of being some crazy liberal place, it really isn't although the local politicians might give that impression. Professional politicians ruin everything and you have crazies that are out on the left same way you might have some conservative crazies on the right in the Deep South. It has always had a high concentration of ex-military although cost of living has pushed people out. The Tech boom which started in the 90's really drove all of that...

Excellent anecdotal minimization of how the people of California are suffering from incompetent government. You should really familiarize yourself with the statistics of what is ACTUALLY happening state wide and why there is now a gigantic exodus. But glad you enjoyed the people and your bros are cool.

"Went to a city and visited most of the nice areas, it was awesome"....no way Huh?

I never said anything about their government being competent. Quite the contrary. A house that would cost $180k here is 1.5 million there. Taxes are through the roof. The cost of living isn’t sustainable.
What I wanted to say is that sometimes politics doesn’t need to be the main focus of someone’s life. Sometimes you should get away from the news and enjoy. The news wants to have you on edge. It gets you a dopamine fueled addiction like anything else.

Exactly, buddy.
No. The people of Vermont were idiots loving in squalor convinced government was going to save them and corporations were evil. They sued each other into oblivion and were eaten up with fear and mental disorders. They destroyed everything. All the jobs moved out of the state because the people thought they could just take anything they wanted.
It was a sad, miserable life with a pretty bow that said "love". Which, again, only went so far until someone disagreed with them. I felt sorry for them and was never so glad as when I moved away.

I don't pretend to get along with the left. They could do what they want if they'd just leave me alone. They are incapable.

Hmm. I wonder where this was in my post.
I’ll tell you this, I felt a lot safer in their bad areas than the ones in Monroe, BR, New Orleans, and Shreveport

That’s self evident. Doesn’t mean California isn’t in free fall.

Our country would be a better place if people would leave their politics at home and not let it be who they identify as. There’s so much more to a person’s identity and personality than who they vote for and what they support. Yes it does matter but I feel like people have lost the ability to separate politics and just being able to enjoy life. I went to Boston lost year and had some great interactions and conversations even though when I speak I sound like a southern country bumpkin.

Going back 15 - 20 years ago I spent time in that area occasionally, for tech training purposes. In fact I was stuck there on the company dime the week of 9/11.
Beautiful country east of SF/Oakland, and I really enjoyed the weather.
Training was in Pleasanton, and back then that town was like a Disney property. No potholes, manicured public spaces, no graffiti. Isolation walls on the interstate so in most places you didn’t even know an interstate ran through the town.
All over northern Cali it was apparent that the state government did a lot of work. Pleasanton is an example, but they had nice looking isolation walls on the interstate everywhere. I don’t ever remember seeing tall grass in a median there. No litter, but that might be because people there aren’t littering assholes. The roads everywhere were in great shape.

I really like Danville,Pleasanton area. Some of those smaller cities aren't as messed up as San Jose and San Francisco.
My home that I sold 2 years ago is now going for 3 million. I'm still in some neighborhood Facebook groups, and my old neighbors keep trying to get San Jose to deal with these heroin homeless setting up tents right by the bike trail just a block from my old house.
I loved my old home and raising my kids in South San Jose. It was safe! It was beautiful. The schools sucked, so we did private. After my kids went to college in 2015, it rapidly deteriorated. Homeless all over. I didn't feel safe going out by myself to even go to Costco. I've been told it's much worse now.
