Nope. The trump presidency simply showed everyone who was paying attention just how far gone this country is. Russian collusion, Impeachment over nothing, and fake story line after fake story line that dummies believed.

Son, I've been paying attention for 50 years.

Russian collusion? Perhaps Trump should not have asked for Putin's help in defeating Clinton on a nationally televised broadcast. I'm not saying he got the help, but you have to be an absolute moron to say something like that on television when running for president. That is 100% on Trump.

Impeachment over nothing? That what the Republicans were saying ab out Watergate 50 years ago, and what Democrats were saying 25 years ago.

Fake story line after fake story line? Should we just start with the Vietnam War and go through the Grenada invasion, the Iran Contra deal, the Panama invasion, the Gulf War, the War in Iraq, the War in Afghanistan, the market collapse of 2008, Benghazi, and passing the ACA? Why do you think being lied to by the government is new?

Enter Covid and we got to really see how the mass of the population will believe propaganda.

You need to read up on the Flu pandemic in the US in 1918. What happened with Covid was nothing new, right down to people complaining about the mask mandates.

We are right now funding a war against a superpower with "the adults" in charge and the media is fricking silent.

Oh yeah, that's new.

You must be too young to remember the Cold War.

America has been steadily degrading since GHWB was president.

That gracious, most people would say since FDR's socialism.
quote:

It's past time for the ideological split to happen.

To be called an 'ideologue' used to be considered a pejorative. It implies a narrow, prescribed, uncompromising approach to governance. Purely ideological systems can't work because they are not flexible enough to adapt to change. The founding fathers set up this government based on compromise, and now we see that 'compromise' has become a dirty word meaning unprincipled.

It's the relative sudden rise of cable news and social media that are driving this divide. We're not nearly as divided as the media would have you believe, but that just doesn't sell. Compromise is boring while conflict gets attention. So those vying for our attention give us conflict.

If Red states suck so bad, why would Blue states fight to keep them?

Because your premise is flawed.

There are going to be alot of conservatives there then. And that would defeat the whole purpose of your proposition. You’re so worried about welfare recipients in New Orleans, for example, but say nothing about Denham Springs.

I'm not surprised you are making this a race thing.

You really think white people on welfare vote Republican?

fricking dumbass.

We can't claim the Forefathers were giants and then shite over everything they accomplished.

Why would it suck?

Crime rate would be a lot lower.

Lowlifes commit crime.

But countries having common ideals is also fairy tale stuff. You want a version of politics that has never existed anywhere. Common threads between peoples has not prevented human conflict, only complete economic integration has.

Indeed. They built this government on the principle of compromise, and now that's seen as a bad word.

Because international politics exist. You are going to create geopolitical flashpoints out of nowhere.

A childs outlook.

Most adults realize there's plenty of room between two extremes, but apparently you do not.

Currently?

Consumption for the sake of consumption.

Cut the cable, get off of social media, stop consuming extreme radio and podcasts, read more books, go outside and talk to Americans face to face. IOW, cut out all the incendiary bullshite from your life. It's a con.

It really does seem to me to be small groups of very noisy extremists on both sides that are driving this bus into the ditch. Don't let them get to you.

I can't stress enough, meet more people face to face IRL. It turns out that Americans are still really good people.

Do I? Increased national identification and relative pulling in similar directions hasn't existed anywhere? It existed here 40 years ago.

Good people don't clamor for handouts or want to take gun rights away after every mass shooting.

Good people don't bother other people.

While desirable on some level, not sure a divorce is practical, but the issue of shrinking the size of federal government could be a winner if properly focused.

I don't do any of this, at least in regard to what you're talking about.

I agree the contingents are relatively small. But you have to account for the fact that many of them are in media, entertainment, they completely control academia, etc. It's not just some ANTIFA folks in Portland vs. whatever the equivalent is in Alabama.

When major multinationals are talking about men having periods in marketing, it's hard to say "it's just noisy extremists." I would absolutely concede that a lot of these authorities don't believe the views they're fostering/marketing on, but I'm not sure that matters.

This is the "it's nice out, go have a beer and you can amicably talk about the Braves with the guy who would tell your son he can be a girl" - which is, of course, true. But "good people" is relative, probably not worth getting into. My point would be these extreme positions are absolutely in the mainstream and my neighbors are voting to implement them. Whether we can share a beer or not (increasingly not if I told them I voted for Trump, etc.) doesn't erase the absurdity of living under the same roof.
