1999 was the tipping point with the "Battle of Seattle." A lot of violent commies came to the city and never left.
It was actually an anti globalist movement taken over by communists.

I've been there 15 years ago and 2 years ago. The city 15 years ago had every redeeming quality. Jobs, culture, landscape, attractions, everything. The city 2 years ago had these things, but open drug use really undermines it all. I really feel bad about it. It should be one of our great cities in America. It's still worth seeing IMO. San Juan Island is also unreal.

There is an easy fix. Just repeal the law that requires a license. You shouldn't need a license to sell trinkets and souvenirs anyway.

Seattle used to have a great book store.
Ivar's on the waterfront was one of the first places to have King Crab Legs, recommended by a waitress who'd had them the previous night because nobody was asking for them.
Great rhodendrons.
A good Greek fest.

Unlicensed vendors can be arrested and they're goods impounded.

Laws, building codes, zoning restrictions, taxes, permits, etc., are for law-abiding citizens.
I can get my business shut-down if my handicapped ramp is too steep, yet a homeless person can build a cardboard house on the sidewalk downtown and get defended in court and win.

I have been to the area half a dozen times, but have yet to go to downtown Seattle.
Appreciate all the responses. Looks like a nice city when you get past the mayor, the vagrants, the graffiti and drug use
