You’ve obviously missed the reality of this situation, which is that Romney has lost support, and realized he can’t win, and is bowing out. He’s not bowing out because he thinks the GOP is tarnished. He voted with marxists against his own party, and his voters washed their hands of him.

There are some that think Romney is going to run 3rd party and try and shave off Utah and NM from Trump.
