They did this in Portland already. Lots of white folk selling and moving to Idaho and Bend
This will probably backfire. There may be more housing, but fewer intact families. And this will have a negative effect on society.
One of the most acute problems of modern life is how disconnected and lonely people are. They live in isolation.

Every conservative hates government regulations until it comes to zoning issues.
This is true, but it doesn’t happen in a vacuum. If you remove Section 8 and affordable housing mandates, many (but not all) people would feel differently about loosening up their zoning restrictions.
People are going to use whatever tools they have available to maintain the value of their largest investment, their home. An apartment complex next door where everyone is paying market rent may not negatively affect property values. A complex where 20% of the units are required to be rented at below market rates and another 20% are rented with Section 8 vouchers is likely going to bring the property values of neighboring homeowners down.

Property rights are the final stage before we are a full blown communist country. You knew it was coming.

We could absolutely house everyone *somewhere*. There are vacant buildings and/or lots in blighted metro areas that could be redeveloped and there is rural land that could be developed into high density housing.
But the trend since the late '70s has been to decentralize housing for the poor, as a backlash to the slums that grew from 'the projects.' So poverty has been suburbanized, especially over the past 20 years.
I agree that it runs counter to societal interest but the alternative - dispersing subsidized housing among market rate housing - runs counter to personal interest/human nature.
