So I'm active duty, got the OG covid last year so haven't really bothered with the vaccines. I'm not super anti-vax, but I'm not the kind of person who gets unnecessary medical treatment.

All of the guidance that is coming down still has no end date for when we have to make an appointment or anything to get the first shot. I know they have to run it past legal and write up all the guidelines, but I'm starting to worry that this is a bait and switch to see who doesn't immediately run to the clinic to get the jab. I've accepted I'm going to have to get it, I just expected to see a hard date somewhere to at least start the process and it's just not happening yet. Am I paranoid?

I'm certainly a bit paranoid about running into the wrong vaxx nazi especially around the DC area. Just wondering if maybe they might change the universal mandate to allow previous infection like Europe is doing. My positive test was on the base clinic so I have all the paperwork.

Why? Even the White House isn't mandating it for the staff.

Who gives a shite about their perception of you. Not only would I not run to the clinic, I'd encourage them to lick my nuts when they ask about it.

All they do is write you a sternly worded letter that has absolutely no bearing on the real world. Source: I was in the military and was written several sternly worded letters.

I think this is a way to purge the military

Not sure if you've ever been enlisted military but that's not the best thing to tell your supervisor

Oh trust me I've gotten quite a few sternly worded letters, not worried about that, just got a 4 year old and trying to buy a house right now, would be a bad time to get the buh bye letter.

I’m surprised there has been a lawsuit

The military is supposed to teach you to be a man of principle. The science isn't behind this mandate. Also, there is no currently approved vaccine, so that's a lie. And if the White House isn't mandating it for their staff, why should you take it. Stand up for your principles and say no!

Your greatest role in preserving freedom for this great country is to not follow the mandate. Generations of soldiers before sacrificed for freedom and I think standing up to them and taking whatever punishment they dole out is this time's sacrifice.

That makes sense. I was a single 25 year old that was just waiting around to go back to school and was begging for a reason to get out.

They are fumbling around with how to issue the order down from the service secretary levels now. It will flow down soon.

They already have it built in to your individual medical readiness tracker, just like any other vaccination. I don’t like it any more than anyone else but the law was settled firmly as a result of the anthrax debacle. So you might as well pick whatever flavor you want now and get it done so you at least have control over that.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but then I saw some verbiage (not a lawyer either) about it needing to be an "FDA approved" shot, which as of now is just Pfizer? I was planning on just going for the single J&J but not if I have to get the Pfizer too. Basically there is so little information filtering down to the frontline guys that I can't even make a decision about what I want or need.

In times past, I’d say your paranoia was well founded.

In today’s world, whoever is in charge of that in the military could just be incompetent

Honestly, frick the modern military command. I'd give them the option of gathering 10 men together and forcibly injecting me or ending my contract.

And for the record I'm not even anti-vaccine. I haven't gotten it because I don't feel like I need it and the reported normal side effects - soreness and feeling shitty for a couple days - are still far worse than anything I have experienced with covid. I just don't accept anyone's supposed authority to force this on anyone.

IIRC there was proposed testing/monitoring on military and veterans written into the comirnaty approval. Either that or it was in the FDA briefing from Dec. 2020. I remember reading it, I just don’t remember which document.

Don’t you think it’s command and branch specific? We’ve already been notified to apply for exemptions by a certain date and get the shot by mid September. We are medical though so most had already received

I've been operating under the assumption that it's just taking forever to filter down through all the bureaucracy, but we've already had chief (E9, air force) get "fired" for being misleading about being vaxxed with the whole indoor masking thing. It's pretty damn scary up here in DC
