It's the truth. The Army spends more time on powerpoint training than it does on actually training for combat.

That and your average soldier qualifies with a M16/M4. Not very many even touch a M9, much less fire it frequently.

Military guys won't fully trust someone unless they served or trained with them and they have proved to be competent.

Lmao at trusting some regular joe with a firearm in a combative situation.

Thread is "thoughts on good guy with a gun."

I posted my thoughts on a good guy with a gun.

Had a neighbor who was a cop and always bragged about his 1911 duty weapon. We went to the range and I was kinda worried for him by the time we left. Come to find out, he really only shoots when he has to qualify and apparently their qualifications are a joke.

Yep. It's all in their heads. When it comes down to it, most shoot a few hundred rounds a year. That's one day at the range for a serious shooter.

Most cops shouldn't be armed with lethal weapons while simultaneously being relieved of the same legal consequences as the rest of us. Its a recipe for disaster.

shite I was a CO of a MP company early in my career and got an official reprimand for exceeding training ammo supply. And we were only firing about 500 rounds per person per month.

Pistols are a serious afterthought in the Army.

Im late to the party, but my primary concern with something like this is people getting confused as to who the active shooter is.

More of a concern for the good guy than anything, but it's relevant. If I were in a situation I had a weapon and there was a potential need (eg a mass shooting scenario, or whatever), I'd probably retreat to a defense location and only draw the weapon for direct threat to me. I don't think I'd try to hunt down the assailant or whatever.

Good chance I'd end up getting popped by the cops or another good guy.

I would do the same most likely. If I had a chance to stop it in the very early stages, I would go for it. Once it all gets going, it's hard to tell who's is the threat and who isn't. I would probably use my pistol to clear a path for people to escape rather than actively pursue the shooters.

and that is actually the smart play. If you have a shooter and then you have 2 or 3 "good guys with guns" that can get pretty confusing as to who is the bad guy. If you have multiple shooters, that just makes it worse, and then if the cops show up too, how the hell are they supposed to know who's a good guy and who isnt?

I'd be willing to bet that there are over 100positive:1negative cases where a gun is in the right hands

That's quite the qualifier statement though. "In the right hands"...

It's kind of like saying that is obesity is very rare in people that eat well and work out consistently over time

It should really be a civic responsibility to -go-armed.

That is a really good point.

The good guys are going to look pretty much alike, I am thinking. Baseball cap, blue jeans, maybe a polo shirt.

Better make sure you are not holding a firearm when the cops arrive. That is for sure.

If it's a good ole baw that is proficient with a firearm, I have no problem with it.

I went in Tractor Supply yesterday and a guy was checking out with a pistol strapped on his hip. I'm pretty sure he wasn't a cop. He was dirty as shite like he'd been working on a farm. It kinda made me smile and proud to be an American.

Why? There are many reasons I'd prefer this to not having it.

This is quite an analogy that works completely against the point I think you're trying to make with it.

I'm just saying that it is obvious that a gun "in the right hands" can be an excellent tool. But those people are few and far between.

Depends on your idea of "in the right hands," I suppose.
