Literally every bird in America is protected under the migratory bird act. The only ones that aren’t are upland game, turkeys and waterfowl which all have seasons

America's National Bird, maybe
Can't even possess feathers locally unless youre native American and there's 30,000-50,000 here.

I've lost so much respect for the people that are supposed to "conserve" our natural resources and history.

How stupid to let them go. The whole world knows the bald eagle is our "protected" bird.

My dad talked to sheriff Unger and the county attorney this morning at the courthouse and they plan on pursuing this until something is done. He had also said the these guys had the eagle all tore up and cut apart. Makes me sick!

They actually used an air rifle rather than a firearm to kill this federally protected bird.
Otherwise, you are exactly correct in your concerns.

NOBODY gets punished these days, and I mean nobody!
Lawless society is the rule….

Actually, there are a number of invasive pest birds such as House Sparrows which are not protected. People are encouraged to eliminate them as these will kill Bluebirds and Purple Martins.

I believe there are only 3 species that aren’t protected

These two "migrants" need to be deported ASAP.

On a lighter note, many years ago I read an article about the raptor center taking a perigrine falcon around to schools to promote conservation. Some "group" was complaining about how they were using a captive bird.
They told the story of this knuclehead bird. A farmer had found him shot in a field and brought him to the center. They repaired him, released him into a city environment and observed so he would be acclimated. He went diving for a mouse in a puddle, and broke his wing again. They rehabbed him and once again released him.
This time he did his best wiley coyote imitation and dove a 100 plus miles an hour after a mouse and wedged himself into a down spout of the gutter, breaking a wing a third time.
Thus the three strikes rule applied and they kept him and domesticated him

Feral pigeons, European Starlings and House Sparrows are not protected and their removal is encouraged.
