There is no real reason we need a population that damn large, especially if we aren’t in a position to be able to support that many people.

1 billion would be just under three times the current US population of roughly 350m. Unless there is enough of an economy to support that many people, it would only make us collapse faster by adding hundreds of millions to the welfare rolls.
