So is that calendar. Compare the "tentative" calendar to reality in the link. Some of those days they only went into session for a second or so to block the recess appointments. And all that work is being done while they are in session, rarely are more then a few Senators on the floor debating.

one of those is a medical doctor who is married to a medical doctor and which one has never had a full-time private industry job in their life and whose spouse has specialized in brokering real estate deals in Washington, DC for lobbyists wanting to curry favor with a U.S. senator who happens to be the spouse of their real estate agent? BOOM!
And you beat me to it. Her husband gave up his law career to sell houses. It just so happens that many of his listings and many of his sales just happen to be to lobbyist. and that is how Katrina Mary has amassed her fortune.
Talk about scum.

You mean like Sen Pat Roberts running for reelection from Kansas but doesn't have a home there?
Another VB lie. He owns a home in Kansas, unlike Mary in Louisiana, it's just the Democrats are claiming he doesn't go there enough. I would say nice try but it's just another VB outrageous lie.

quote:that wont prevent people from saying OMG THEY BOUGHT a 2.5 MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE!!
They bought in a crappy neighborhood when property values were low, re-habbed the house acting as their own contractors, and wound up with a nice asset, probably the biggest one in their portfolio. They sure didn't pay anywhere near $2.5 million for it.
They bought land in SE DC in 1997. NO ONE, not even politicians, wanted to live there.

They bought land, not a house. They held onto it for 5 years before building.

You're such an idiot. Sure he owns a home in Kansas but he doesn't live there.
So to sum up Mr. Alter, it's ok for Roberts to rent a room from his supporters for purposes of residency but it's not ok for Landrieu to own a home with her family and live in a room for purposes of residency.
quote:
The facts, from a Roberts’ spokeswoman, are these: • Roberts does own a home in Dodge City. In fact, he’s owned it since 1992. • He rents out that home and doesn’t live there. • On Oct. 1, Roberts began paying $300-a-month rent to two longtime supporters — C. Duane and Phyllis Ross of Dodge City. Roberts stays in their home when he’s in town. The senator now lists this home as his official residence on his driver’s license and voter registration.
So to sum up Mr. Alter, it's ok for Roberts to rent a room from his supporters for purposes of residency but it's not ok for Landrieu to own a home with her family and live in a room for purposes of residency.

Hmmm... this has been an issue in his race since February.... where's the lambasting? How many threads here on the poliboard have we had on Roberts? Who here knew that Roberts faced the same challenge as Landrieu? Who here knew who Roberts was?
You don't think Roberts situation received attention? It's been in the national news consistently since February.
FWIW the situations are similar and my original position was that it's not a huge deal, but the narrative is different.
Here is his statement; you can contrast it to Landrieau:
quote:
"Senator Roberts long has owned a home in Dodge City. It currently has a tenant; he also pays rent at a residence where he stays when he is in Dodge City. He pays Kansas state tax and property tax. His three children attended college in Kansas. He is a Kansan. He lives in Dodge City by every measure of residency," said Roberts spokeswoman Sarah Little in a memo to reporters.
NYT 2/14 Lacking a House, a Senator Is Renewing His Ties in Kansas
WP 2/14 Pat Roberts doesn’t have his own home in Kansas
Here's an link from buzz feed 2 days ago; nothing similar exists on ML

Just for the record, the work of members of Congress is not limited to floor debate; that's just a fraction.
When they are in session they are in meetings, briefings, committee hearings, bill mark ups in committees, etc. Committee work takes up a huge amount of their time, not floor discussion which is largely for show.
