From what I’ve heard and read, this is my understanding of the situation. Please correct me if I’m off base.
Democrats are saying that without absolute proof of the Biden allegations then it’s a moot point and obviously false. However asking for that proof from the government of the country where the corruption occurred is soliciting election interference from a foreign government because the accused is a candidate.
However, back in 2016 when Obama discussed Trump with foreign governments, well that was different.
Am I close?

There is actually proof that Biden interfered in a foreign government's legal system. He admitted it.
For what purpose hasn't been determined.
But there's more proof than not that he acted nefariously.
