I am born and raised in Louisiana and I am doing just fine in my career. Louisiana isn't the sinking ship everyone on here wants it to be. It is the same as it has been for the last 15 years. I live here because this state is my home and I love the community I live in. Louisiana is not Texas or Florida, but there are plenty of ways to make a good living here.

Not to derail this thread, but who the hell is buying all the new construction around Baton Rouge and where do they work?
I do not freaking know!!! I think they’re just relocating from areas that aren’t “new” anymore and buying more house than they can afford.
Real Estate pricing and inventory in BRLA are completely inexplicable. I could probably sell my house and make 20-30 percent over what I paid for it - but then where would I go??

In the 1980's NOLA opted to go tourism, convention, and entertainment economy. They seemed to have forgotten that it was white collar businessmen visiting the city which caused is restaurant and bar business to flower and prosper.
NOLA allowed the white collar oil biz (it was the center of offshore oil biz deals worldwide) to consolidate elsewhere.
Laffy became a center for software development for oil exploration and drilling. This could have been in NOLA as a cornerstone of more "tech" biz.

I'm starting to think Arkansas' "questionable plans for construction on I-49 from Shreveport to Fort Smith" is being held up on purpose
we don't want them traveling into our state?
how long before Highway 90 along the Gulf Coast is one big long arse gated community?

OUT OF STATE!!!!
Which will have the opposite effect. What you should do is HIGHLY encourage them to go learn a trade.

your eye-popping stat is Houston
a buffer on that IMO is that I'm not an alarmist about the growing Hispanic population - they believe in God and family and hard work - the ones I know would agree with us in a second about having our military take care of our border against the cartels instead of being halfway around the world
I have good friends who visit their mothers in El Salvador, beg them to come to America with them, and when momma turns them down they come back to America wondering if they'll never see mama again because of the crime in her neighborhood down there
I rambled
get ready to start supporting conservative Hispanics versus leftist Soros Hispanics in Houston, because that "back and forth" is coming

It also makes me happy that I fly solo in my law practice and ditched big law forever. Starting one’s own business is where it’s at. It’s the only way to be truly free.
John Grisham fan here loving that post

Those freaks screw up every place they live and then blame the locals.

I don’t understand the people who stay in Louisiana or Mississippi.
Because you can get a degree that will make you a really good living, the cost of living is far less than all of those other awesome places like Baltimore, and I can walk the roads of area and my town and not have to be off the street when the sun goes down.
If there is no way to earn good money in Mississippi…. Why are people making good money here?
That’s why. And no I don’t give a shite about how many coffee shops are around me.

I’m not sure where you get this data, but it is wrong.
Yes, I stand corrected somewhat.
Gulf South LA Fortune 1000:

Pool Corp (Wholesaler) - Covington - 624
LHC Group (Healthcare) - Lafayette - 947
Elsewhere LA:
Lumen Technologies (Telecoms) - Monroe - 138

The concentration of white collar jobs in the top 15-20 metros isn't good for the country but that's what has been happening for 20 years.

LHC just got bought out.

The threat of hurricanes shutting off electricity I think is a reason these massive businesses don’t locate in the gulf south.
Jacksonville - 111
Charlotte - 160
Atlanta - 160
Tampa - 188
Dallas - 228
Only one is in the gulf, but hurricanes are an issue for all three.
