BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An administrator with the Louisiana Tax Commission (LTC) was arrested Friday on multiple charges.

Louisiana State Police reported Charles Abels III, 51, of Baton Rouge, is facing charges related to his job.

Sgt. Jared Sandifer with LSP said the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations began looking into possible wrongdoing by Abels in May 2018 after being contacted by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA) regarding possible payroll fraud by Abels.

He added investigators uncovered there were multiple times when Abels claimed he was working and was paid for it, but he was not actually performing duties for LTC.

According to Sandifer, investigators also reported there were several times when they saw Abels using a state rental vehicle for personal use and discovered he submitted fuel reimbursement requests for the vehicle.

Abels is charged with one count of malfeasance in office, one count of public payroll fraud, and 63 counts of filing or maintaining false public records. All of the charges are felonies.

Abels was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Bond information is not yet available.

The investigation is ongoing.

I doubt he's the only one in that office doing shady crap. Many are the Fridays where that entire hallway is dark or mostly dark by noon. Sometimes it's not even on a Friday.

Oh, this guy is a peach... (arrested in the LP back in March for domestic violence)

The administrator for the Louisiana Tax Commission was arrested and accused of domestic violence in Livingston Parish earlier this month, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office.

Charles Abels III, 51, of Killian, was booked March 4 on one count of domestic abuse battery into the Livingston Parish Detention Center, records show. He was released the next day on $1,530 bond.

Whodathunkit??

Former Livingston Parish Assessor Charles Abels was arrested here on a 4th offense DWI charge Saturday, though what prosecution he may face remains to be determined. Similar problems forced Abels to resign from office four months before his term expired in 2000 under a plea bargain arrangement. Abels lost his bid for reelection in 1999 to Jeff Taylor amidst adverse publicity regarding his behavior. Abels pleaded guilty Aug. 25, 2000, in the 19th Judicial District Court to first offense drunk driving and hit-and-run driving and agreed to resign from office and appoint Taylor as chief deputy assessor. He had faced a felony obstruction of justice charge over allegations of an attempt to cover up a 1998 hit-and-run accident in an Assessor's Office vehicle.

That's called "throwing the book" at someone. My guess is that the 63 counts of false public records are primarily his time sheets, the other two charges are basically re-statings of that.
