It does work that way. The biggest problem facing African Americans is simple: fathers not taking care of their fricking kids. You put a white family in identical circumstances as a black family, then it will end the same. here's another basic point.
Look at the economy in the southern (confederate) states v/s the economies in Northern States (including out west, etc.). There's a lapse. Or, there was a lapse I should say.
There are differences in education levels, economic levels, etc. It's because of the Civil War, right?
Well, compare that difference to the differences in white and black communities in general.
The differences are due to the fact that there was a war that divided the nation, and then the south was oppressed for many years afterwards. There were also a LOT of confederate nationalists who remained to run southern states long after the civil war.
Compare that to slavery.
Do you understand?

people blame it on cultural differences and lack of fathers, etc. It's so much deeper than that.
