If you are tired, then rest, but don't ever give up attempting to work out this argument. Working out our own theology is who we are and what we do as humans. It is usually a lifelong task.

A Higher Authority is an absolute must for morality to even exist. Without it, we are no different than the animal kingdom where right and wrong do not exist. And yes, many people agree on which Higher authority to follow, they do it every day.

Work it out and make your own choice, just don't say that God doesn't exist because the argument has no merit for you.

A lot of pain, anger, and emotion it this post.

It is true that religion (humans) has failed to represent God throughout history. I am truly sorry for that, but I do not attribute my own failures to God and discount His truth because of it.

"meddle in the lives of others"

"impose their will and their version of morality on others."

"held its hands around the people's throat and forced them to believe shite that frankly no logical sane person could."

"Now people are pushing back"

All statements that can be attributed to both sides.

Do you not think that Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Taoism, Hindu, etc. represent large groups of people who agree on a higher authority to follow?

I think you have a very low opinion of humanity and yourself if you believe this to be the case. If you truly believe that man, when facing moral dilemmas, will only choose what is "right" because of fear of Hell or a higher power, then I don't know what to tell you.

The very statement is a disagreement.

If everyone agreed to a higher power...it would be the same one...which is what you said.

There are as many religions in the world as their are socks in my dresser.

Hell there are many different flavors of christians in the world...you people can't even agree which one of those is the correct one.

Now back on track.

Arizona welcomes all those who want to get married.

Even Pastors and clergy were standing outside of the county clerk's office yesterday offering to marry gay couples.

It was kick arse to see!

Yup.

My favorite part of religion.

Believe in what I say or I will torture you forever.

I am very suspicious of my own capacity to face a moral dilemma. More often than not, I have made choices based on what is good for me and mine rather than what is truly right. Also, in my experience, what is truly right can be at odds with what appears to be good for the majority (or minority for that matter). I personally prefer to confer and defer to my Higher Authority and let the hair go with the hide.

Since this tread is about the gay how would you explain the possibility of an atheist that believes gay sex is morally wrong?

My concern is and, until proven otherwise, will be the "end-game". Is the end-game attainment of gay marriage and equal rights? If so I'm all in.
My end game is outlined in the Constitution. Following that is good. Not following that is bad, sayeth I unto thee. Bans on marriage based on the sexes of the engaged are unconstitutional.

I can speak for no one else. If someone else's end game goes against the Constitution or includes an attempt to change the Constitution by circumvention rather than by our existing democratic process, then I will oppose it. I trust we agree on this much.
