People who have filed cases in civil court are eligible to have their cases arbitrated by Judge Judy. If chosen they drop their civil cases and enter into a binding arbitration agreement with Judge Judy as the sole "judge". This is why she hears cases from all over he country and not just some jurisdiction. It's also why she has a lot more wide discretion in her decision making since she really isn't bound by state/county laws. I think virtually all judge shows nowadays are structured like this.
Well yes....if it was a "real" courtroom they couldn't do half the stuff they do.
I guess my point is the fact that he was a "real" judge for over a decade before retiring.
When someone says something like "Wait....you think she is a real judge,' its as if you are saying that she is just an actor placed in the role.
