One rumor for why the North Americans were so much less advanced was due to being repeatedly whiped out by diseases brought by white explorers during various eras including the Viking Sagas (11th Century), Henry Sinclair and the Templars (14th Century), and finally the Spanish (late 15th century on). Each voyage brought with it a plague that devastated the native populations only for them to barely rebound in time for the next wave.

The only real advanced “natives” were the Aztecs. Judging from a supposed picture of a “pure” Aztec, they actually look nothing like any other Indians.

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think the Indians north and south of the Aztecs were the exact same race either. Cherokees and the other North American Indians were taller and more athletic
