A postage-stamp of territory with far less than a million people does not deserve two US Senators. End of debate.

I fully support retrocession of the VAST majority of the District's land area to Maryland, if Maryland will take them (not a given).

democratic state and help them in elections

And will add 2 democrat senators and about 4 congressmen, then the filibuster wouldn't matter at all.

Loved watching their mayor say it was a plot by the GOP to disenfranchise 750K people of color.....wonder if that cvnt realizes that out founding fathers made this decisions in 1792 before there were 750K inhabitants of DC and definitely way before POC could vote.
Look at the 1789 demographics. The entire District probably had something more like 7500 people in it, and the Founders were NOT giving two Senators to 7500 people.

The original land area was taken from two slave states and populated largely by slave owners and slavery sympathizers.

If anything, the decision to preclude Congressional representation to the District had the effect of LESSENING the political power of the slaveholding class.

But that is "racist." OK

(founding fathers) never saw anyone "living" in DC.
Not entirely accurate. When the Constitution was adopted, there were already several then-small settlements in the area, including Georgetown on the Maryland side of the Potomac and Arlington on the Virginia side.

There should be no residents in DC - You should be a resident of the state you came from.

You should not have a permanent residence in DC if your only reason for being there is to 'serve the country" They should be treated just as Military are treated. For merchants who serve the public and reside inside the boundary, their votes should be assigned to the closest adjoining state. That would be where "local" representation should be housed. There is no need for a "city" of DC. Any more than there is a "city" of a large shopping mall - or a major university.

aren't they all within about ten miles of some other state??

I drive twice that far to go to my doctor. Most people drive that far to go to work - or the nearest shopping mall.

Houston Tx is 10 times the square miles of DC - should it be a state>>??? Why do not they have two senators??

Something was voted on in the '90s. I recall watching the vote on C-Span

FWIW, the state would have been called New Columbia. Now I guess it would be Obamaland.

Just give the proposed "New Columbia" back to Maryland, retaining only the monuments and public buildings.
