Not primarily.

But a convenient byproduct

I think the past week has shown us that both political parties and the mainstream media are even more addicted to war than we thought.

It's what I thought.

To be clear, I don't see what right we have to police Syria.

Here's the bottom line.

Isolationism does not work in today's world.

Either we flex our muscle every now and then or China and Russia run roughshod over us on a global stage. And if that happens this country's economy will collapse. Our overseas assets will be ceased, our embassies will be attacked and our standing as the world power eliminated or lessened.

Russia has us in a state of unrest right now and they know it. Obama always said the line in the sand should not be crossed .... and then he let it happen which is why we are where we are today.

This had to be done. It's gonna be fine. If it escalates we'll take care of business.

These things have to be done every so often. Otherwise everything goes to shite.

There hasn't been a time since WW2 where the United States wasn't involved in one or more conflicts around the world. At the present time, we are in Afghanistan, drone bombing half a dozen other countries and talking about war with Iran, North Korea and Russia. There is nothing isolationist about the United States. We have the most hyper-interventionist foreign policy in world history.

Not wanting to bomb a country that not only hasn't attacked us, but also one whose ruler has just defeated the group responsible for multiple attacks on the United States, is not isolationism. It's called sanity.

The right seems to be pro-Assad judging by the posts here on this board.

No, it's the Rand Paul wing of the Republican Party that opposes this, for the same reason we opposed intervention in Iraq, Libya and Syria in 2013. You're looking at the only consistent anti-war faction in mainstream American politics.

I don't mind Paul. He is consistent. Seems most here are not.

Do we have proof of the chemical weapons or do we need to get Colin Powell on the job?
