ST, since Socialism is - or requires, given human nature - a form of extremely centralized/authoritarian control, did Marx factor in the corrupting power in regard to the few that wield the central controlling power?
Yes he did. I think most would be surprised to learn the amount of true democratic process that was involved in Marx's ideals.
The means of production would be socially owned, while self governing cooperatives would compete in the marketplace. Allowing virtues of the market to remain, while shedding some of its vices.
Marxists believe in an economy neither centrally planned or market driven.
On this model, resources would be allocated by negotiations between producers, consumers, environmentalists and other relevant entities, in a network of workplace, neighborhood and consumer councils.
The broad parameters of the economy, including decision on the overall allocation of resources, rates of growth of investment, energy, transport and ecological policies would be set by representative assemblies at the local, regional and national level. General decisions about things like allocation would then be sent downward to regional and local levels, where detailed planning would be worked out.
At every stage, public debate over alternative economic plans and policies would be essential. In this way, what and how we produce could be determined by social need rather than private profit.
Under capitalism, we do not decide if we need more hospitals or breakfast cereal, under socialism that freedom would be exercised regularly.
It's important to understand that media would not be anything like it is today, under capitalism, fascist/state capitalist systems.
Under capitalism the media avoids difficult and innovative work because it's bad for their own profits and the corporations that keep them on air. They settle for banality, sensationalism, and prejudice. Under socialism it would be the opposite. Check out your local independent community funded radio station as a reference for what can be expected in place of corporate run media. This would create a far better environment for the public to have an honest understanding of the problems they face.

My original response, posted in the other thread, moved here, so as not overburden your comprehension ability.
Quote my original {"I hold back strong (cultural) critique of the Capitalist ideology, because I do believe in a system where personal merit and motivation is rewarded with prosperity. Being a man of the 'spirit', I am not blind to the highly problematic aspects of status-based economics, competition with it's winners and losers, and what the Bible would describe as 'idolotry'. Idolotry, I.e., "the worship of things made with the hands"; which tends to compete with the 'attention' for the feeling of the Spirit.
While I begrudge no individual their right to follow 'Adam', and know/test themselves against the powers and temptations that be...I do realize that any society that lives by that impetus...will indeed see "wailing and gnashing of teeth".
Marx' version of an idyllic economic model, seems to be just that....idyllic. which requires ideal individuals, and a high degree of cooperation. I do believe we'll get there, and Marx system might be the product of an idyllic vision, of the which I do envision. A lot have. But Vision...ain't economics. I think you would really enjoy reading the book "Abundance". The future...is up for grabs.
People of good conscience, are forced by their conscience to care for the brethren. Biologically, for survival and prosperity's sake....and as THE very First Premise - indeed, the very definition, as defined by God Himself - such being Love. Love being...Unity. Of the which I worship as my ultimate value.
If I seek (kharmic) mercy from the Good Lord, then I must in turn lend such mercy to the "least of the brethren". Of course, not an unqualified mercy...for me...or the brethren. That is where the current (Egalitarian) Ideological fails. Attempting to equalize...with zero consideration of merit. Or even and education of what the rules must be for any implied social contract or society to long endure.
I do not defend Capitalism, no more than I defend Religion. Neither is an end in itself...but a means to an end. For me, that end would be Unity. Or Love. Friends...and potential friends. And concern that Truth be known, so as to comfort them (friends) who suffer great pain. Of the which I am acutely aware; as any individual who loves...will be. One can only love to the degree that one can bear pain. }quote
Your response: quote ST {" Why wouldn't you have replied in that thread? Very weird. I have absolutely zero clue what relevance anything you just wrote has to my post. Literally no idea. You basically didn't read one thing I wrote and made a general response based on what you think Marxism is.. I made a direct response to a concern you had about a centrally planned government, I explained that his vision is not a centrally planned government.. and you respond with some Dr Bronnerseque rant about God and human nature. "}quote
I most certainly did read you interpretation of Marx, and liked it. I even speculated that it might be a model for a successful future system, per this: "Marx system might be the product of an idyllic vision".
You say that Marxism ain't centrally planned, but then I read "socially owned", "resources would be ALLOCATED", "governing cooperatives", "set by representative assemblies", "general decisions...sent downward", "detailed planning"....need I go own?
My summation of your presentation of the Marxist model, is that such is an ideal where the co-operation of individuals is the central basis of it's success...and that such an ideal (co-operation) is IMPOSSIBLE outside of finding some sort of unifying (co-operation enabling) power that can address our highly problematic 'human nature'.
I believe that such a 'unifying' power can only be found in the God-based paradigm. You show me an individual (especially a weak one) that believes they have one life, and they cease to be forever, or especially a whole society...and you and Marx can kiss your 'ideal co-operation'...good bye. Will-not-happen. Both because of the weakness (lack of vision) on the part of the weak....and the corruptibility of those (intellectually strong) who form your "governing cooperatives".
Power affects. It's real. Belief is the ultimate (potentially unifying) power, and it matters...whether you believe or not. Read - and comprehend if you can - Quantum Physics, and you'll realize and be "shocked", like Einstein and his peers, that whatever belief an observer of the Empirical Evidence brings to the observational process....SHAPES the Empirical Evidence. That is PROFOUND.
The Holographic Model backs the model for a totally UNIFIED Universe. Infinitely so, in every way, shape and form. Time and Space included. It (the model) in essence, progresses toward the knowledge that Matter, Energy, Time and Space are therefore...products of PERCEIVED CONSCIOUSNESS. A Singular (Objective) Consciousness at the core...and an infinity of individual (Subjective) conscious entities of infinite varying degrees of conscious power/complexity.
If we ever see the level of cooperation that both you and Marx base your successful version of economic cooperation on...it will be the product of individuals' faith and belief, exercised into creating a Reality based on this (Quantum Unity) totally unified model of Reality. And once there - that Vision - it will be a short jump to the realization that Unity...is Love. And God is what it said it was (Biblically)...being Love. Perfect Unity.
Bottom line. You and Marx and Humanity are looking for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow if you ever believe you can accomplish the degree of cooperation necessary for Humanity to survive and prosper...outside of the mitigating power of Jesus Christ. Appointed 'mitigator', who handles the problem of 'Evil', and the Catch-22 scenario of the acquisition of Knowledge/Power...CORRUPTING them that acquire it.
Enough 'weirdness' from me. Good luck with gold.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said in that post. It was the most incoherent random ramble I've ever read on any online forum, ever.
It had no relevance at all to anything you were responding to.
I feel like I'm reading a Dr. Bronner's label when I read your longer posts.
