My wife works in the medical field and they told her at a conference that 3 out of 4 people affected by opioid addiction started with prescription drugs. I can't say with absolute certainty that it's true, but if so, that may change your opinion.

A lot of those people are just normal folks... Welders, teachers, soccer moms, etc., who were prescribed something for their back pain or an injury after a car accident and it got out of hand. I'm sure plenty of them had never done illegal drugs in their lives, now they're junkies.

You shouldn't be so quick to judge them all based upon your own assumptions that might not be too accurate. There but for the grace of God go I, baw.

Right. Many if then simply walked into a doctor's office seeking legitimate medical treatment. Moron

It is absolutely real. When I worked as an Emergency Physician I would see at least a handful of patients a week - sometimes two or three a day on a bad day - who were faking complaints in order to get narcotics.

Some of theae were 'frequent flyers' who had multiple visits (sometimes two or three a week going back a year or two) for that purpose. Of course you have to do the tests because frequent flyers can get sick too. If you miss something, however unlikely, you are just as sued.

...and no, most of these people aren't as normal as you or I. While some have legitimately gotten addicted after treatment, most have a history if drug use, psychiatric issues, or other pathology. Still others take your Rx, fill it, and sell it on the street.

If you're in a Family that hasn't had at least 1 person effected by it then you are the exception.

Then the same logic should be used to legalize all drugs and let everyone buy what they want, get addicted, sick and die. Opioids are a scourge that we need to fight, idiot.

I think it's a real epidemic, however I think there's no way in hell our tax dollars should be paying for it.

Did you intend to be so broad with the statement that our tax dollars shouldn't be paying for it? Because if that's the case, you'd also have to believe that it should be legalized or that people should never end up in prison because of it.

I'm soon to be 57 and have had a Total Knee Replacement on my Rt. Knee Nov. of 2015.

I've certainly done my part in the past to make Gumplandia #1 in Opiate RXs.

imho, there shouldn't be Heroin in every little City,Town, and Community in America.

I don't know the answer.

Right now the "Band-aid" has been equipping all Rescue Personal with Narcon.

They're bringing most ODs back to life.

Funny thing is there was a country in europe that did this nearly 20 years ago. They used the money they saved on jail to pay for education and public rehabilitation centers.

And guess what it worked. But you know how those politicians are; evidence and facts can't change years of propaganda no matter how much we scream at them. As evidenced by some of the responses on this board.
