This should be a banner year for the Democrats, and the odds are still good that it will be. Donald Trump's approval numbers are starting to compete with Kanye West's and Meghan Markle's, and it seems daily as if he's doing his best to catch them. He says he doesn't care about people's financial struggles, he keeps fighting this ridiculous war whose rationale (Iran can't have a nuke) exists only because of an idiotic decision he made in his first term, he slaps tariffs on everything from booze to hockey sticks, he bombs at the Correspondents' Dinner like a washed-up Vegas comedian playing a bordello down the street from the Liberace Museum. Most of America is sick of him. They're even sick of his wife, who, at 12 points underwater herself, is far and away the least popular first lady in recent American history.

But as DNC chair, he's just been terrible. I'd been hearing things long before this Times article, and none of them were good. Back in March 2025, I wrote about how Democrats should create a shadow Cabinet to confront and critique the president and generate national news. I was briefly enthused when, in early April, Martin said he would do just that. But it's been 479 days and nothing has materialized. And the only time he actually made big national news was a train wreck—that long-delayed "autopsy" of 2024 that he released under public pressure while announcing that "it does not meet my standards, and it won't meet your standards." Both the report itself and the handling of it were embarrassingly amateurish.

I have to assume Democratic insiders are texting one another about how to get rid of the guy. They sure should be. I had a gander at the party bylaws, which say clearly and directly: "The National Chairperson shall be elected and may be removed by a majority vote of the Democratic National Committee." The committee has around 450 members. Under normal circumstances, most of them are loyal to the chairman. But these circumstances are a long way from normal.

The party is on the cusp of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Seems to me that's when a party needs to act. I know—we're talking about the Democrats. Sigh.

What a nasty piece of writing this is. Throwing mud at the first lady for no reason. 'Americans are sick of her.' What is there to be sick of, her good looks and restraint? she keeps a low profile.

Make an accusation "Americans are sick of her" and leave it. Don't explain, don't back it up, just say it and make it a declaration. Then the compliant media picks up on it and repeats it verbatim as fact.
If you ever ask a leftist to explain what they mean, you'll ever be ignored, insulted or assaulted - but never will get an answer to your very, very simple question.

Democrats have to come to a realization. Their party is fractured beyond repair. Establishment Dems are being drowned out, primaried, slandered and libeled and being treated like trash by the other half of the party - the zealots, the radicals, the bold-faced communists who think it's their time.
The Democrats were gullible enough to open the gates and let the trojan horse in, now they get the Talib, Omar, Mamdani Muslims, the LGBTQ crowd, the immigration crowd. They have lost control of their own party, completely.
As for the voters? Well, given that the last THREE presidential elections contained candidates that were not the people's first choice. 2016, 2020, 2024 - not one of those elections were held with a legit candidate. Teh party chose those candidates. Now they are dealing with the violent radicals of DSA. Have fun being on the same side of history as Stalin.
As we saw in Maine last month, voters are the last people that get to pick a candidate.

Serves the Dem Party right. They are simply not raising the funds needed to run an effective midterm campaign in 2026, and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand why. They are fractured, without an effective leader, and are still running on the same platform as they did in 2024. So, they pivot to making Trump the villain, for the millionth time. Yeah, we know who and what Trump is. But have the Dems made even one sensible policy statement (other than free stuff for all, usurping the Constitution by removing the presidency and Senate, open borders, no police, etc.) on how they will run the House, and perhaps the Senate in 2027, other than "get" Trump? I cannot vote for a Party that is going into the dumps at full speed, without a rudder, and is fractured at every level.
