These people ceased being "Mexican" 200 years ago, when Texas gained its independence. Texican is a term that is frequently used for native Texans of Hispanic origin. I have a buddy whose family has been in S. Texas for over 200 years, and even though they still have extended family in Mexico, he would never refer to himself as anything but a Texan
