There’s the doctrine of Islam (which is backwards) and then there’s the culture of Arabs which is arguably even more backwards.

Combine those two and you get a non-pluralistic society of patriarchal families that physically coerce their children into conforming to the customs of Islam. Anyone who falls out of line gets beaten, harassed, or shunned. Men are coerced too but women are coerced at a far greater degree and it leaves an imprint on them no matter how they live their lives.

I’d say that it’s more of a cultural thing than doctrine, although doctrine definitely plays a major part in it too. Arabs in general just can’t seem to stop living in the Stone Age when it comes to how their family structures operate.

The Republicants just got handed a great campaign commercial and they probably won't do anything with it.

Smart move is to just run the footage during Michigan, Sparky, and Lions games without comment.
