Yes. Cannabinoids affect pain processing. If/when there are clinical trials of marijuana versus opiates, which do you think will have better pain reduction?

The answer is obvious, but that isn’t the point. Some patients should have the possibility to select the nonaddictive pain management option. Some people may want to avoid the pitfalls of opiates.

It doesn’t expose my bias. I would vote for any cannabinoid treatments to be available to anyone tomorrow. That’s not what the marijuana warriors want.

You seem to know more about what marijuana warriors want than anyone. Why is the edibles industry exploding in legalized states?

Alabama is much closer than you would think at medical marijuana becoming a reality.

Never forget the sway the baptists and bubba gumps with badges have.

Try taking money/power away from either and youll have big problems.

The answer is obvious to you. Not to a lot of your fellow travelers (see Fawx a few posts back). I am for more choice and freedom. If people want to smoke pot, smoke pot. Just don’t pretend you’re curing cancer by getting high.

...so how to you propose to deal with the increase in emergency department and ICU usage - much of it among the Medicaid population - that your three policy recommendations will cause?

I’m not going to defend the strawman.

A) Medical pot ain't sending that many to the ER, if any at all.
B) Drugs would be regulated, resulting in LESS abuse/hospitalization.
C) Opioid addiction is estimated to cause a negative economic of roughly 2.3% of GDP.
We'd still come out ahead.

Because they can charge more for edibles?

Odd that they’d charge so much for a product no one is buying.

And yet teen visits to the ER at a Colorado hospital (and its affiliated urgent care centers) quadrupled after medical pot was approved.

Visits by teens to a Colorado children's hospital emergency department and its satellite urgent care centers increased rapidly after legalization of marijuana for commercialized medical and recreational use, according to new research being presented at the 2017 Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting in San Francisco.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear. People like getting high off of marijuana far more than they value the medicinal effects of cannabinoids.

Have you moved on to a different topic or do you not realize that people can get the psychoactive component of cannabis through edibles?

I’m aware. That’s my point. That’s why I said I wasn’t clear. People are advocating for getting high and pretending it’s medicinal. Is that clear or do I need to restate it?

Sure they are. That doesn’t take away from the medicinal properties. We get it. You don’t like stoners. Message received.

Stupid. What you should be pushing more is more regional usage for peri-operative pain.
