Unfortunately it states provide. I try to interpret the Constitution as a strict absolutist. Liberals on the supreme court feel as though the constitution is a living, breathing document that can be changed with times. That's why the phrase provide for the general welfare gets me. I know big government people twist the meaning of welfare though to fit their narrative.

I just need to dig deeper on which founder put that phrase in there & what exactly they meant by general welfare. Maybe it just was a generic nicety word to use about making the country a better place.
