Not necessarily. If Joe tell the FBI he “doesn’t recall” and somebody then tells the FBI “Joe and I texted all weekend about the party details”, then Joe gets charged for lying. Best bet, don’t talk to the Feds, can’t lie to them if you don’t talk.
