Montana because of the smaller population plenty of animals to eat . This is something democrats don’t under stand . They live in areas where all of the food is shipped in and the population is really high. If all hell broke lose or a civil war then they would kill each for food .

Wyoming, Open carry for decades during hunting season.
You could not carry in a bank or bar ....
Forgot one season and walked into the bank to cash a check .. Bank security guard tapped me on the shoulder ..."Forget something?" I raised my hands and replied ..."Do you mind holding it for me for a few minutes?"
"Why a 357Mag?" "Equality when a bear decides to charge. Code of the west, save the last bullet for yourself."
He held the gun, minus bullets until I finished.

Anywhere in the rural south I could get along just fine for the most part. Its when you move further north and they start getting actual winters where I would run into some issues

Texas has become too urban.
Anywhere in the rural South.
The following map is from Stirling's Emberverse series. The books are just fun, escapist silliness, but his assessment is probably pretty accurate regarding of the areas that would become essentially uninhabited ("Death Zones") and the areas where some sort of civilization might survive.

My nephew is dating a young lady whose family owns a house on a big lake in the country, pretty isolated. She told us a couple of weeks ago that we are invited to hunker down with them. Said her dad has been stocking up on ammo, food and water for a couple of years!! (in MS)
My kind of people.
