I don't know much about ocean shipping, so I have a question for folks who do.

Do the goods received at ports on the East and Gulf Coasts generally all come from Europe, the Middle East, South America and Africa?

Not since the Panama Canal was created.

Well even before the Canal.

And the port strike doesn't care where the goods come from.

Somewhat, yes.

The USEC traditionally handled Europe, South American, the Mediterranean, and ISC (India and Pakistan).

While the USWC handled Asia.

It has changed somewhat in the past decade with the expansion of the Panama Canal. So now the larger boats can access the USEC from Asia. And because the USWC ports have become congested. And Charleston and Savannah have both deepened and modernized their Ports and built out new terminals, etc

So now more and more Asian goods are flowing through the Canal.
