And the economy. Since the GFC you can count on one hand (and still have fingers left over) the number of years GDP grew (as a total dollar amount) more than the deficit for that year (prior to the GFC, going as far back as 1981, there was only one year where the deficit was larger). This means that since 2008, we've been kept out of a recession because of deficit spending.
