It's possible. Citizens from some countries can serve in the military but restricted based on the fact that security clearances require you to be a US citizen meaning some MOSes would be off the table.

It helps with shortening the amount of time to become a naturalized citizen if one chooses to do so but it also helps not to be booted out on a less than honorable discharge. You know, something some people here seem to just be completely ignoring.

I know at West Point we allow others to come and train.

I like the idea of Citizenship with service sans selling coke is a bad look

Stay, if convicted serve the time.

It’s chickenshit of the highest order when the military (government) allows an illegal to enlist and do our our dirty work then when we hit a bump in the road we boot them out.

Another fun fact, I would be shocked/stunned if the MC, Army and Navy has less than 10% of its total that are NOT citizens of the US.

So why should he suffer a harsher penalty than anyone else for the same crime?

Because he did not commit the same crime.
American committing felony is American problem after prison.
But Mexican committing felony in America is Mexico’s problem after prison.

Complete separation from his family (kids, parents, sister) is additional punishment.

Wow! A complete falsehood from Big12fan in the 2nd sentence!? I’m impressed! He usually starts the falsehoods in the 1st sentence! Oh, wait, he did!

American law allows any and all of his loved ones to visit or immigrate to Mexico. If Mexico allows it, not a complete separation and possibly NOT separated at all.
quote:

We are supposed to be treating our VETS. No doubt he fricked up with the drugs, but he should be given credit for his service in time of war. He at least contributed.

Agreement with Big12fan twice in two days!
He can be treated in Mexico and the VA can pay for it! Bet you didn’t see that coming!
quote:

Basically the US is telling him and his family that he is not worth it.

Agree again! He is not worthy of being an American, and unlike US citizen felons, we don’t have to keep his worthless arse!

How was a non citizen in the Army?

Didn't even know that was possible.

quote:

The same applies to the U.S military today. Since the Revolutionary War, legal permanent residents are eligible to enlist in the military. Roughly 35,000 non-citizens are serving in active duty military and about 8,000 join each year.

Non-citizen service members offer several benefits to the military. They are more diverse linguistically and culturally than citizen recruits, which is particularly valuable as the U.S faces the challenges of the Global War on Terrorism.

Also, according to a military research, once non-citizens have joined the military, they are far more likely to complete their enlistment obligations successfully than their U.S.-born counterparts. Thirty-six month attrition rates for non-citizens are between nine and 20 percentage points lower than those for white citizens, the largest demographic group in the military.

It all depends upon how much shite he was causing. If he was only guilty of a one time drug bust, ok. If he was a serial trouble maker, who is to say he was not that all along.

Well, presumably, that service requires actually serving honorably, not being a shitbag and getting a goddamn GD. I took one of my team leaders to the Green Zone for his citizenship swearing in, and I think it's a great idea to fast track citizenship, but this guy was already a frick up while he was in. And who really knows if he's now claiming PTSD fifteen years after the fact as a cover.

Then two pounds of coke - that ain't playing around. That ain't "PTSD".

I'd say 10% is high, but it might be 6 to 8% if you include people from American territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, Micronesia, etc.). The vast majority of Hispanic kids that I came across were already citizens. Also, every single kid that wasn't a citizen knew exactly what the process was to expedite the process. This dirtbag knew he lost his expedition the minute he got a GD.
